A week ago I jumped out of the closet. Not only did I jump out of the closet but I did so waving a very angrey rainbow flag at my unsuspecting mother. Since moving back to my hometown I have had to go from ???very out??? to ???closet bound???. Slowly but surely I have been discussing this with my family members. First it was my father, this of course happened rather comically. My dad, aka my best friend, and I were discussing of all things sex. Unlike most children I came to terms with the fact that my Mother and Father had sex. Of course I had to come from somewhere and my crazy kink sex drive had to come from somewhere. I got all caught up in the moment one night when we were talking and I blurted out, ???well hell Dad no wonder I am so orientation confused!!!??? This of course made me all red with embarassment and my Father???s bearded jaw to drop to his chest. So of course I had to explain myself, I told him of Mary and why I was in such bad shape when I moved back home. I of course could see the puzzle pieces clicking into place for him. Since then we have had plenty of conversations such as what girls do I find ???hot??? and what actress am I secretly crushing on. In a town were being ???alternative??? could get you drug behing a truck its always good to have a friend. Next came my aunt. During one of our many outings to get breakfast or go shopping we got started talking about politics. Which in most company would be very very bad, but she can have a good discussion without getting heated. She began to explain to me that she believes that we are born who we are. That sexuality is hard wired into us at birth. It was at that time that I told her, her response was very calm. She just nodded her head and said that whatever is done behing closed doors is no one else???s business. Which is very true and most of the time I do mirror the sentiment but I did explain to her that in all honesty that I just wanted to feel comfortable bringing a special someone home to meet the family. The rest of the convo was fairly uneventful. After this, came my discussion with my mother. I was ready for a gush of hellfire and brimstone but she didn???t bring that up once. I of course told her about Mary. I also told her about the issues with my ex roomie being engaged to Mary. There was no sympathy but there was some understand I think. She seemed to think though that because I had moved back here that my ???lesbianism??? was just a condition of where I had lived. She asked if my friends knew. Just the few close friends that I happen to have here do. She then told me to be careful telling people because I could get hurt. She asked me who I had told and I answered but then she said that I should be careful telling anyone else. That people get killed for it. I have heard of this happening in the southern states.Never have I been told to keep quiet for my own safety.

I just joined this sight and understand what you are going through. I do have a very understanding family all but my sister-in-law she is the hell fire and damnnation one. Living in the south can be scary at times. I have found out that more people are understanding than you would think. I will gladly be your friend.
